Home for the Holidays Supports Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana
The Home for the Holidays Raffle, organized by the Acadian Home Builders Association, supports the Ronald McDonald House South Louisiana’s expansion at Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital. Through the raffle, we aim to raise essential funds necessary to plan, design, and build a future home that ensures more Louisiana families can stay close to their children during long-term hospital stays.
Since the campaign’s inception in 2005, AHBA, through Home for the Holidays, has proudly donated over $3 million to local non-profits in our community.
What is a Ronald McDonald House? A Ronald McDonald House serves as a home away from home for families with a child in a medical crisis. Our House offers FREE overnight lodging, meals, and access to other support programs to keep families close to their hospitalized children.
Understanding the Need: Expanding Services in Acadiana
Every child deserves the comfort of having their family close during a medical crisis. Yet, for too many Louisiana families, travel distance and high lodging costs make that nearly impossible.
Since the Ronald McDonald Family Room® at Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Childrens Hospital opened in December 2022, it has been at capacity every year. Additionally, more than half of the families who stay at our House in New Orleans come from Southwest and Central Louisiana. The need in Acadiana is undeniable. Families here are traveling long distances, carrying heavy burdens and searching for a place of relief and support.
That is why Home for the Holidays is focused on growth – helping to expand the services of Ronald McDonald House South Louisiana into Lafayette so more families can find strength, comfort and hope close to their child’s hospital bedside.
